Getting Stared with Module 2...

We're back! Im spending this week really getting to know Module 2 and what is expected during this term. first thought: WOAHHH!

I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed at the amount of work that is to be done, particularly compared to module 1, however I'm sure once I have decided on a topic to focus on it will be smooth sailing from their... maybe this is wishful thinking!

What I have taken from the handbook so far...

'Little wonders'

What would I like to understand more within my practice?

- It has always interested me/ annoyed me that I perform worse in auditions that I care about greatly, and perform significantly better in the ones where I am not too fussed on the outcome. I think this is due to the amount of pressure I put on myself to do well when the stakes are higher. I guess this would relate to psychological pressure and how this can affect performance, this is definitely something I would love to explore further as i develop my inquiry. I will first start by looking at other literature surrounding this topic and I will blog on my findings!

Reminders to myself..

I am not meant to have all the answers at this point and maybe I'm not meant to have all the questions either.

I felt exactly the same at the start of Module 1 and over time my ideas and theories developed as I'm hoping they will during this module too!

I am not trying to change the world

If any module 3 students have any advice on the module feel free to comment!

  1. You'll be great. I love how we all have a seed of an idea straight away, it's how we read around it and shape our investigations that's time consuming and tricky!

  2. Hi Shauna! Great blog, I think entering a new Module we are all feeling a little nervous but I'm hoping through this community we can help shape our focus area through questions and discussions.

Your inquiry idea sounds interesting, I agree that the pressure we put ourselves in an audition can affect our performance. Perhaps you could research ways to channel that pressure and perhaps question if sometimes we confuse pressure with adrenaline.

  3. Hi Shauna!
This is definitely an interesting route to go down and I'm sure one that a lot of people can relate to. I sometimes wonder if our view of our performance might be skewed in auditions we care more about as we are more self-critical, whereas in an audition we don't care for as much we aren't constantly criticising what we are doing, when our performance level might be the same in both. I also wonder how much internal damage control might come into it- if we care more about getting a job then convincing ourselves we did badly mentally prepares us just in case we get bad news. I can't wait to see where you go with this!

Deadline day!

So I submitted my inquiry report last Friday and I couldn't feel more proud of myself! I hope everyone else is feeling good about coming to the end of module 3! Its been a rocky process, definitely some ups and downs but overall I've learnt a lot about myself and it really has changed the way I view my practice. Ive had a few days off to enjoy the fact that I've finished my written work, now its time to start planning my presentation. the presentation will be around 20 minutes long (which sounds like a lot but I think in the moment it will go very quickly) so its going to take some planning. I don't think I will use a powerpoint as I often find them distracting, however I think a prompt sheet will be perfect to keep me on track and ensure I say everything I want to speak about.  Things to involve in the presentation:  Defining my practice/ what has lead me to this point in my practice.  How did I get to my inquiry question? Overview of the process What did each sect...

Beginning my critical reflection

As I wait for my draft feedback I decided to begin reflecting on what I have learnt during this module. during module one I actually discovered that reflection is at the heart of my practice, whether that is reflecting on my performance for ways to improve, or reflecting on feedback from teachers etc. you could also take it very literally as I use reflections from mirrors every day in my practice to see the shapes I am making and find ways of moving differently. My practice is one big fat reflective cycle.  Anyway... Module 2: here's a little rundown of how I found each section Finding my topic: I actually found finding my topic the most difficult part, I felt that there were too many topics floating round my mind, how could I possibly pick just one?! so I spent the first month flickering back and forth between two topics which I realise now was not the best use of my time. EVENTUALLY, I settled on Music Performance Anxiety and its affects on musical theatre performers at a...
